On this day in 1386, the Treaty of Windsor was signed between Portugal and England. The Treaty of Windsor is a diplomatic alliance seal by the marriage of King John I of Portugal to Philippa of Lancaster, granddaughter of King Edward III of England. This treaty established a pact of mutual support between the 2 nations. The original document is preserved at the Portuguese National Archives and remains to this day the oldest diplomatic alliance in the world still in force.
